Finncon, the largest science fiction and fantasy event in the Nordic countries, takes place in the main building of the University of Jyväskylä from 16 to 18 July 2010.

The sixteenth Finncon ever tackles most interesting field of fiction by examining its historical roots and the way it is spreading to all types of culture: movies, TV series, comics, and literature. Now is also the time to celebrate 150 years of Finnish science fiction.

Finncon’s overseas Guests of Honour are Pat Cadigan (UK), called the queen of cyberpunk, and Ellen Kushner (USA), one of the top names in fantasy literature. The Finnish Guest of Honour is Sari Peltoniemi, a leading name in Finnish fantastic literature, and the Fan Guest of Honour is professor emerita Liisa Rantalaiho, an expert in the field of science fiction research.

The weekend offers nearly a hundred programme items: lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and other events. Finncon presents the latest publications in the genre and takes a look at what’s happening in Finnish science fiction fandom.

Finncon 2010 is free of charge for visitors and is made possible by grants, advertising revenue and plenty of volunteer work. The main organizers responsible for Finncon are the Jyväskylä Science Fiction Society 42 and Finncon-yhdistys ry in cooperation with Jyväskylän Kesä.
