Fabulous Finncon 2010 T-shirts will be on sale at Finncon. They are sure to be a hit, so make sure you get this summer’s coolest shirt by ordering it in advance!

The basic shirt is available in summery black and army green, ladyfit is available in black only. The little ones should not be left shirtless; children’s sizes are available in bright green.

The prices are 15 € for adult sizes and 10 € for children’s sizes. You can pay and pick up your shirts at the Finncon info desk.

Kaffeeklatsch with the Guests of Honour

The traditional kaffeeklatsches are also part of this summer’s programming. Meet Guests of Honour Ellen Kushner and Pat Cadigan at the cabinet of Restaurant Sohwi, Pat on Saturday from 4 to 5 p.m. and Ellen on Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. Registration in advance at the info desk is required!

Kaffeeklatsch means a laid-back chat with the GoH in a quiet location. You can come to ask questions or just to listen – the chatting will be in English, but that’s no reason to be nervous. Coffee is not compulsory; Sohwi also serves cool drinks and salty snacks to beat the summer heat. Visitors pay for their own food and drink. Only a limited number of people will fit in the kaffeeklatsch, so make sure to register in advance at the info desk.

Visit the Particle Accelerator Lab

On Friday, there will be a visit to the University of Jyväskylä Accelerator laboratory. You can see all three particle accelerators and learn about the research. Fits 25 persons. Sign up in advance to <tommi.eronen@2010.finncon.org>.

GoH Signing Sessions

The author Guests of Honour will sign their works at the convention at following times:

Ellen Kushner Sat 3 PM — 3.30 PM
Pat Cadigan Sun 1 PM — 1.30 PM
Sari Peltoniemi Sat 12 PM — 12.30 PM

The signing sessions will be held in the lobby at the publishers’ sales table.

Con site opening hours

The main building is open on Saturday from 10 AM to 6.30 PM, and on Sunday from 10 AM to 5.15 PM. The info desk will also be open during those hours.

Finncon 2012 Bidding

For the first time in Finncon history, there will be bidding for organizing a Finncon. Two candidates, Helsinki and Tampere, announced they would like to host Finncon in 2012, and Espoo and Moon soon joined the candidates as well.

The bids will present themselves on Saturday at 3 in the “Future convention presentations” item. They will also be present in the Friday evening gathering at Sohwi, as well as the Saturday evening party. You can vote on the best bid at the convention, the winner will be announced on Sunday.

Finnish translation of Ursula K. LeGuin’s Rocannon’s World published at Finncon

Rocannon’s World (1966) is the first novel by beloved fantasy writer Ursula K. LeGuin and has already achieved the status of a classic. The book’s Finnish translation by Jyrki Iivonen will be published at Finncon by Avain together with the publication of Pat Cadigan’s first Finnish translation, that of Mindplayers.

Rocannon’s World is an adventure on a faraway planet. Humanity, courage, and the desire for freedom are put to the test as occupying forces subordinate intelligent humanoid creatures. The book is the first in the series of Hain novels, of which The Left Hand of Darkness, The Dispossessed, The Word for World is Forest, and The Telling have previously been translated into Finnish.
